KS2 School Level Quiz

What is it?

This is a Year 4/5 mixed year group road safety and sustainable travel quiz. The quiz is based on the DfT’s Tales of the Road, Togo Nogo and materials provided by the A*STARS Team. There are 2 parts to the quiz – an Inter-Class Quiz delivered in school which enables schools to select a team of 4. This is followed by an Inter-School Quiz.

Schools are invited to send a Year 4/5 mixed team of 4 pupils comprising 2 Y4 children and 2 Y5 children to represent their school at the annual Inter-school Quiz.

Should anticipated numbers of schools be too great, a selection event/activity will be arranged by A*STARS Team

What planning needs to be undertaken e.g. risk assessments, route selection, Health and Safety etc?

1. Year 4/5 staff should familiarise themselves with the content of Tales of the Road, Togo Nogo and the A*STARS Quiz information/activity pages. These should be made available for pupils along with sufficient time for revision.

2. Y4/5 staff will need to timetable quiz and decide how and where it will be delivered.*

3. Schools attending the Inter-School Quiz will need to make their own arrangements for transport, risk assessment, photo consent etc

*Year 4/5 class quiz can be delivered any way to suit the school. Y4/5 mixed teams can be joined together in the hall to do the quiz as a joint activity. Alternately, Y4 and Y5 can do quiz in class individually, or in groups of 2 with winning team from each class joining together to represent the school. If more than one class per year group, schools can look at individual scores or consider holding a knock out activity for top teams.

What do I need to do on the day of the activity?

Administer the quiz and keep a record of the scores

Is there anything I should be aware of?

The A*STARS Team uses of the results of the quiz to enable them to highlight any weaknesses in the pupils' knowledge and to assist with forward planning for the A*STARS programme. A copy of the score spreadsheets should be returned to the A*STARS team when the quiz has been completed. Schools that return this data before the end of term will receive a reward for all children that took part.

What do I need to do after the activity?
