Walk to School Week

May

For Walk to School Week, the “Forest Challenge" campaign is a fantastic opportunity to encourage children and their parents / carer to walk (scoot or cycle) to school and experience the health, social and economic benefits of leaving the car at home.

We have free resources (tree trunk posters and footprint stickers) available for each class and for each day that children walk, scoot or cycle to school they can add their footprint sticker to the trees, replicating leaves. There are various coloured leaf stickers for each day and this will help to create a lovely colourful forest display.

For children who live too far away to walk, suggest that their parents /carer park away from the school and walk the last part of the journey.

Recording sheets are available on the A*STARS website. Schools who return results for the campaign will receive prizes for the best performing class.

(As an extension to the campaign, A*STARS Sheriff’s may wish to judge the “Best Forest Scene” created at the end of the week – you could even add extra drawings / features to the poster!)

Resources (tree posters and stickers) have been sent out to each school and the recording sheet can be located under the How to Guides – National and Regional Campaigns.
