Each school will be assessed at the end of each year and awarded according to thier achievements and pupil active travel data.

  • Minimum of 4 Healthy Lifestyles required
  • Healthy Lifestyles are capped at a maximum of 30 points

Courses are delivered in small groups, and the objective of the course is to teach trainees to “ride a journey”. Training is delivered over 1 school day or 2 afternoons.

Raise awareness of the program to parents and carers through engagement and involvement during parents' evenings and other school events.

Schools identify an area close to school where parents can park and students can walk into school.  
5 Minute Walk Zone Set up a zone which is a 5-minute walk to school, allowing parents to park outside of the zone and walk into school to reduce congestion and pollution

Any activity in school that can be attributed to walking, e.g., walking to an event, etc.

School to deliver Bike maintenance sessions by a designated member of staff, using resources from A*STARS, e.g., M-Check cards.

Where sufficient interest is shown, a school cycling club can be set up. This is commonly run as an after-school activity.

Theatre in Education – Streetwise Year 7
External company

Theatre in Education project called "Streetwise" is designed for Yr7 students after they have just made the step up to secondary school. This performance uses multimedia, mask work and live action to engage with your year 7 students.

Drive to Arrive
Year 12 & 13 / post-16 (pre-drivers)

During the day students will experience interactive scenarios presented by Central Motorway Police Group, The Beacon (Young Person’s Substance Misuse Service) and Highways England.

Each student will also have a practical driving session with an instructor from the ‘Young Driver’ company.

Create a Campaign Year 7 – 11

Learning objectives include 
1. ssues affecting young drivers such as peer pressure, speeding, seatbelts and inexperience
2. esponsibilities as a pedestrian, a passenger and a future driver

In groups, students task with planning their own campaign to raise awareness of road safety standards locally.

Speed Awareness  Year 7 – 9
School-led with speed guns

Teaching resource where pupils participate in a practical roadside speed monitoring session. Pupils use speed guns to measure the speeds of passing vehicles and identify the difficulty in judging the speed of approaching/ passing vehicles.

E-Scooter Safety Year 11 - 13
School-led

Legalities of e-scooters need addressing as more teenagers are accessing them.
