Eco schools - Walsall

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.

Becoming part of Eco-Schools is simple. Registration is free for schools and can be completed online. There are currently 69 Walsall schools registered with eco schools, 5 of which have achieved Green flag status.

Once registered, schools will receive regular newsletters and email bulletins with access to national and regional information, competitions and funding. Only registered schools can apply for an award.

How does the A*STARS programme support Eco-Schools?

The Eco-Schools programme is focused on nine key topics. These are:

  • Energy
  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • School grounds
  • Healthy living
  • Transport
  • Litter
  • Waste
  • Global citizenship
  • Transport and Healthy Living

The A*STARS programme can help schools to provide evidence in support of these 2 topics. By encouraging children and families to walk and cycle more, they can:  improve pupils’ health as well as build their independence, develop road safety and social skills, help reduce carbon emissions, and reduce local traffic congestion during the school run by helping take more cars off the road.
